Citizen Science

What is Citizen Science?

Citizen Science is community volunteer scientific research. It is done in part or wholly by amateur scientists, regardless of age, experience, or level of expertise. Citizen Science allows for public participation in scientific research, whose outcomes advance scientific research on many different available projects.

Citizen science may be performed by individuals, teams, or networks of volunteers. You may partner with professional scientists to achieve common goals. Amateur volunteer networks allow scientists to accomplish tasks that would be too expensive or time-consuming to accomplish on their own.

There are many projects out there that we as amateur astronomers may find interesting. All that is needed is a desire to learn more and participate in something worthwhile.

You’ll find many projects where NASA is involved.
